Lord Hop Retirement

A surprise announcement of his intention to retire was made by Gary Thomas, landlord of the Lord Hop micropub in Nuneaton, at the end of October. During the past eight years the pub has been a mecca for real ale and cider drinkers from near and far, picking up numerous awards including the prestigious Champion Pub of Warwickshire award in 2017.

It’s not difficult to say but incoming landlord Paul Smith has, literally, some pretty big shoes to step into!

Another pub, lost forever?
A planning application has been submitted to Nuneaton & Bedworth Borough Council for the demolition of the Kingsholme (formerly known as the Coach & Horses). Dating back to the early 19th century, and not open since 2009, the pub has been allowed to fall into disrepair and due to the continued neglect by the owner, the pub has become somewhat of an eyesore and has been subject to several arson attacks and even been the site of an illegal cannabis farm. Given substantial investment, there should be no reason why this historical and architectural treasure couldn’t be restored to its former glory.

2024 Pub of the Year & 2025 Good Beer Guide

The search for nominations for the 2024 Pub of the Year (PoTY) and CAMRA’s 2025 Good Beer guide is underway. To help us determine the branch’s most eligible pubs for recognition we need your help. As it’s not physically possible for us to visit each and every pub in our area as often as we’d like, we depend on our members to join in with this unenvious task by recommending them by submitting scores for the beers they have consumed and the venues they have visited. Guidance on Beer Scoring can be found in the section: Beer Scoring.
