June 2025

Welcome to the June newsletter and an update on what is happening in our branch area.

July is Cider & Perry month, not from concentrate which means the likes of Lilly's and Westons cider which we see quite often around the branch area is not real cider or Perry, they are made from concentrate or Chaptalised juices.

The likes of Sanford Orchards, Celtic Marches, Pulp and Ascension Ciders seen in the Lord Hop & Church End Brewery Tap are real ciders, made from freshly pressed apples or pears. There is a list of real cider producers and pore information about what real cider is on the CAMRA website: https://camra.org.uk/producers.

Pub News

A recent visit to the George Eliot in Nuneaton town centre revealed that Carlsberg's Fresh Ale is now on the bar here.

The Cottage Inn, Fillongley has been put on the Market with a price tag in excess of £350,000. After being extensively fire damaged in May 2024 closing the pub, a lot of work will be required to reopen the venue, sadly it could also be lost for good. We wait now to see who buys the venue and what plans are submitted.

The Hearty Goodfellow on Arbury Road, Nuneaton closed in March with the Landlady moving to the Pavillion Club as Bar Manager. The Hearty remains closed but rumours of a refurbishment have surfaced so we are waiting on news of this happening and an eventual reopening.

The Hare & Hounds on Heath End Road, Nuneaton has unfortunately stopped selling Bass 'for the Summer'. A visit in Autumn is planned to see if real ale does return.

Plough Inn, Smorrall Lane Bedworth are soon to start serving food once again, also installation of new beer lines will be happening very soon so real ale will be available in this part of Bedworth once again.

Socials

The Lord Nelson in Ansley are holding their annual Beer festival in August from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th, this year's theme to be announced.

Since March we have held socials across the branch area and neighbouring towns and have been fairly well attended so far. Thank you to those who have come and supported us.

We are attending Leicester Beer Festival on the 26th June and then a trip to Rugby on the 5th July. We are then taking a short break with the next social on the 23rd August 2025. Please do check our events calendar.

We are also working alongside Hinckley & Bosworth CAMRA to bring you a heritage Bus trip in October to Belper, more information will be coming soon!

Thanks once again for your continued support and please do keep visiting your local pubs.

Also please do beer score and provide any feedback on changes to venues!! We really do appreciate the help!!
